Your taste buds will come alive with Dill Red Onion Caper Tomato Salad
Dill Red Onion Caper Tomato Salad will have your taste buds bursting. A super simple and fresh salad to bring a level of sophistication to the table. Perfect for any picnic where you want to raise the bar from the usual tomato salad.
You may have guessed by now that I love dill. Fresh dill that is. Every year I can not wait to get dill in my garden pots so I can start using it in salads such as this and potato salad. Dill can be a strong flavor, but I think that is what I like about it. It is strong and fresh tasting.
In this recipe, there is only fresh dill, red onion, capers, oil, tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Super easy to make quickly. I will say that it does have strong ingredients in the dill, red onion, and capers. Make sure to slice the red onion to paperlike thinness so the flavor is not so intense. I have to admit I like that strongness of flavor in this salad. It may take you a few tries to work out a balance for you. Reduce some and increase others. Do what works for you. I encourage you to do that. Make it your own.
You can eat this alone as I have for a lunch. I usually serve it with smoked salmon, grilled salmon, or beef. It works really well with burgers done on the grill.
By the way, it looks fantastic on the table. I like to serve it on a contrasting color plate. That really brings out the colors and textures of it.

Need a simple salad dressing?
Basil Buttermilk Salad Dressing.
What is best to drizzle on freshly picked lettuce from the garden? A fresh homemade salad dressing such as basil buttermilk salad. I made this salad dressing a week ago for dinner guests. I usually make an oil and vinegar dressing, but wanted something more. This dressing fit the bill. And it was a huge success. It is so simple and so fresh. Especially on freshly picked lettuce and some tiny heirloom tomatoes.
I have to say that it have become my favorite dressing. It uses fresh ingredients. It is fresh basil, mayo, buttermilk, green onion, salt, and pepper. That is it. Just whisk together. There’s your dressing.
So much better than anything out of a bottle. You can make cake, biscuits, and pancakes with your extra buttermilk. Or just make lots of this dressing. I can see this dressing on more than a simple lettuce salad, but with more complex salads. I will be experimenting with this dressing and other salad ingredients. So stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy this dressing on your salad today.
